UK childcare needs to be more affordable | CentreForum


Childcare costs are one of the biggest expenses that many families face. Many people find this the hardest thing to cut back on. With your car or your home, you can obviously downgrade your car or put off that extension on your house, but you can’t really make cutbacks on childcare.

The average family spends over a quarter of their income on childcare and the most common way for families to deal with this is for the parent on the lowest income to work part time or quit their job entirely, but this is not a sustainable method of childcare. Can you imagine if every household with children under the age of 16 had one parent as a stay at home mum/dad? What would that mean for our jobless figures?
